Ten years ago, a handful of students sought to create a forum of study, conversation and education about Catholicism and American politics. Thus the Orestes Brownson Council (OBC) was born, drawing inspiration from their namesake, who dedicated himself to seeking the truth and rejected existing political ideologies.
Though the leaves are rapidly changing to red and gold, Notre Dame’s campus was awash in green last week for the 7th annual Energy Week. Hosted by Notre Dame’s Center for Sustainable Energy (cSEND), the week raised awareness of the world’s current energy crisis through various events and talks. Notre Dame’s student organization GreeND organized keynote speakers and presentations that explored the topics of solar energy, energy in transportation and energy research internships for students.
The words “I have to go to the library” are usually not uttered or met with enthusiasm by students. But beginning last Friday, Notre Dame commenced a year-long opportunity for the students, faculty and the Notre Dame community to celebrate and commemorate the Hesburgh Library and all that for which it stands. Contributing to the celebration were live music, staff handing out various Hesburgh paraphernalia and Au Bon Pain’s distribution of free treats and drinks.
On September 17, Michael Bradley sat down with Maureen Doyle, the Gender Relation Center’s Assistant Director for LGBTQ Student Concerns who will also be the advisor for Notre Dame’s new gay-straight alliance, and Christine Caron Gebhardt, Director of the Gender Relations Center, to discuss Doyle’s hiring and the creation and implementation of “Beloved Friends and Allies.”
