Cheers:

Taco Bell/Pizza Hut: Words fail in describing this great triumph. If you are a freshman you won’t appreciate the improvement over its predecessor, but take it from any upperclassman: where you get your “fourthmeal” really does matter. Plus the competition may have forced Subway to get with the program and offer $5 footlongs. Win/win.

Sakai: Sure it’s a better platform than the beloved (well not really), though outdated, concourse, but what really sold me was the catchphrase: ‘for educators by educators.’ FEBE? Where have I heard something similar? It’s like FUBU with significantly more street cred.

Father Jenkins: On May 21, Fr. John Jenkins and Notre Dame sued the Obama administration for its Health and Human Services Department’s mandate which would require religious institutions like Notre Dame to provide contraceptives, abortifacients, and sterilization to its employees. It’s refreshing that Notre Dame made the courageous and right decision; three years earlier president Obama had delivered a commencement address in which he stressed, among other things, religious toleration. And now the other shoe drops.

Jeers:

USADA: The US Anti-Doping agency has concluded its dogged witch-hunt by stripping American hero and 7 time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong of his titles and banned him from competition. Despite his passing 500 drug tests, the USADA has cited “overwhelming proof of doping’ – the evidence for which has yet to be released – for its ruling.  So far the International Cycling Union has failed to condemn Lance.

Michael Bloomberg: Between legislating against 16oz. soft drinks and attempting to use the Aurora shooting tragedy to curtail Second Amendment rights, New York Nanny, er, Mayor, Bloomberg had a busy summer.
