Friends, Tolkien

I am excited to announce our next Free Read, Tolkien: Man and Myth, a Literary Life, by Joseph Pearce. Tolkien’s masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, has been voted book of the century in Britain. Tolkien is certainly one of the most popular writers of our age. In this book, first published in 2001, Pearce explores Tolkien the man, especially his friendship with C.S. Lewis, and enters into Middle Earth, exploring its significance through the lens of Tolkien’s own understanding of myth. “The Lord of the Rings,” Tolkien famously wrote in one of his letters, “is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work.” Pearce expertly explores Tolkien’s literary life and the profound influence of his faith in his writing, and we are pleased to promote this wonderful book.
