Our free read this week is Breaking Through: Catholic Women Speak for Themselves, edited by Helen M. Alvaré. Helen Alvaré is a professor of law at George Mason University, a Senior Fellow at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, New Jersey, a Consultant to the Pontifical Council for the Laity, and mother of three children. This collection of personal stories from nine Catholic women explores pressing questions about money, work, marriage, contraception, and children and how these women found answers in the teaching of the Catholic Church. Alvaré seeks to portray an alternative to the culture’s often dishonest narrative of the Church’s moral and social teachings and show instead the freedom that can come from faith.
