The perks of being a member of The Irish Rover staff are innumerable. For starters, we get to pull all-nighters writing articles on highly intellectual and important stuff, which, in turn, are read by everyone across campus the very next day. Additionally, the celebrity status attained by simply being associated with The Rover is certainly a plus, although the ceaseless barrage of requests for autographs and high-fives (from varsity football players no less) can be a tad bit annoying at times. Oh, and did we mention the parties (although those are temporarily on hold- they still haven’t been able to clean the wax off the floor of the Grotto following our last CRAZY midnight vigil)?

However, it’s not all fun and games. Sometimes we have to deal with some heavy stuff that brings us to the verge of tears. Yes, believe it or not, at times working for The Rover is an unenviable task. This is one such occasion.

Faithful Rover readers, we regret to inform you that Brent Modak is no longer with us. As you may recall, Brent has graciously served as the editor of our sports section for the past two years. In actuality, this essentially meant that Brent not only edited all sports-related content, but he wrote it too. I mean, let’s be frank, no one else at The Rover really knows anything about sports (Katie Petrik doesn’t even go to the football games).

However, Brent has fallen victim to an endless deluge of law and graduate school applications and regrettably informed us that he could no longer devote the same level of vigor and passion to his position at The Rover. “Better to have loved and lost than to not have loved at all,” is not what he said, but is probably what he was thinking as he typed his resignation. We will miss Brent, and wish him well in his future endeavors.
