Cheers:

Ireland
Wait, are we really cheering the worst defeat of US servicemen on foreign soil now? Notre Dame’s 50-10 drubbing of the Midshipmen was a great way to begin the season and has garnered many new ND fans across the pond.

American Patriots
A little more than 11 years ago, terrorists attacked. Americans responded, and a special thank you goes out to all first responders and medical professionals who served that day, as well as members of the armed forces who continue to serve and defend today.

Dillon Hall Pep Rally
What’s better than a live band, an appearance by the Poms Squad, and a pirouetting, bare-chested Bob Burkett? Here at The Rover, we’re not sure there is, and know that you’ll have regrets until the day you die if you missed our editor-in-chief moving like Jagger.

Jeers:

Leon Panetta
Despite the virtual re-enactments of every aspect of Osama bin Laden’s killing on every media outlet and descriptive statements from White House, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta is seeking to prosecute the former SEAL who wrote a book describing the raid. Reportedly, the Pentagon is recommending against criminal prosecution.

Forcible Fondling
Alliteration aside, this is not a phrase anyone wants to read in an email from the University – two such reports in 24 hours? I don’t really want to imagine what this crime entails, so here’s a picture of hands instead. Also, knock off the forcible fondling, fellas.

Political Conventions
Between bizarre speeches, fanatical supporters, and platitudes du jour, I for one am happy to see the end of the convention season. It’s a lot of vacuous rhetoric and manufactured excitement – like any pep rally not run by Dillon Hall. But fear not, political aficionados, the changing of the leaves in October marks the arrival of presidential and vice presidential debates. And that means Joe Biden in all his glory.
