A Farewell to Our Seniors

Brenstina Barks Goodbye
CAMPUS | April 15, 2026

Woof woof! In honor of their service on the Irish Rover, and to commemorate the first all-female triumvirate, our lady watchdog Brenstina would like to offer a word of thanks to our wonderful seniors and senior citizens!

James Whitaker – Humor Editor

Hailing from “outside of D.C.,” James “Unc” Whitaker is a doctoral student in the theology department. None of us were born when he started writing for the Rover, but we are sure glad he did! As the longest-serving member of the Masthead (ever), James has been a source of insight into the wisdom of the ancients. James will be missed for his ability to make jokes Summa style, karaoke prowess, and, most of all, for his house. Following this year, he plans to marry another Rover alum and finally finish his studies—unless he decides to get a “quick MBA.”

Michael Canady – Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, Opinion Editor

Michael “Minority Hire” Canady is another longtime staple of the Masthead, having served under the DeRuil, Schmitz, and Spence regimes. We are especially thankful for Michael’s noble fight against the PLS-ification of the Rover these past two years. Michael will be remembered for his similarity to a certain beloved animated character, performances of “La Bamba,” and editorial wit (seriously, this guy can write!). After graduation, we wish Michael luck as he continues teaching and, we hope, showing up to publishing nights at 10 p.m.

Bridgette Rodgers – Events/Photography Director, Executive Editor Emeritus

Bridgette “GCal Master” Rodgers is wrapping up an official degree in theology and political science, as well as an unofficial degree in Canva. We are particularly grateful for Bridgette’s ability to make us laugh at all times of the day, including many a 2 a.m. publishing night. Although we are sad to see her go, we are excited to see what she does with her many, many talents in the future—including singing, acting, writing, designing, organizing, party planning, and what the photo suggests.

Haley Garecht – Managing Editor, Campus Editor Emeritus

After years of hearing her stories about Philadelphia, we are glad to send Haley “Liberal” Garecht back where she belongs. Although her time with us spanned only three semesters, her articles will be hard to forget, hard as we may try. Haley will be remembered for her “punchy” headlines, love of commas, and frightening GroupMe presence. After graduation, she will be getting married to a Rover alum (see above) and working in fundraising before heading to law school.

Brenstina is Brenston’s little-known female counterpart who will likely never write again. She will miss our seniors greatly and hopes they don’t hate her for the photos she picked. Then again, she is just a fictional dog. Woof!
