SCOTT ENGLERT is the Rover’s graduating Politics Editor. From Nashville, TN, Scott spent his four years at Notre Dame with great company in Siegfried Hall. He will return home this summer to grilling out, drinking copious amounts of sweet tea and spending time with his family. This August, Scott looks forward to departing to our nation’s capital to study law at Georgetown University Law Center.

MADELINE ROE,

an art history and English double major, is tremendously grateful for the adventures of her undergraduate experience. She never would have imagined that transferring from Tulane University in her hometown of New Orleans would bring the opportunities to serve in Honduras and study abroad in Germany, Paris, and London… or the laughter and love of her Notre Dame companions—including a proposal from her lifelong best friend, Peter Flores. Madeline is sad to leave the Rover after one short year of editing shenanigans but ecstatic to continue her journey with Peter in Tampa, Florida. She has aspirations to pursue law and contribute to the arts.

Though legend holds ROBERT EUGENE BURKETT was born fully bearded, reeking of expensive cologne and fully clothed in Notre Dame apparel, everyone’s favorite hirsute editor was born in the Indiana town of Carmel, approximately 130 miles from the Golden Dome. Over time, he grew in wisdom and stature, and through the grace of God, was accepted at the University of Notre Dame. Once on campus, Bob established himself in the classroom majoring in anthropology and political science and playing interhall football while also working at the Irish Rover. Heeding the call to service, Bob will travel next year to Detroit with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, mentoring at-risk youth at the Covenant House.

MICHAEL JACKSON

is a 5th year senior and Notre Dame is finally getting rid of him! He hails from Steubenville, Ohio by way of Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan and was a member of the first class from Duncan Hall, Notre Dame’s second on-campus hotel. After graduation he’ll be taking his talents to DC where he will be working in something unrelated to his studies in chemical engineering and philosophy, namely consulting. Perhaps he will continue to play his saxophone and referee a little basketball as well. Known for writing a humor column about many things that were never actually funny, Michael will likely continue to tell stories that widely miss the mark and perhaps put a few of them in writing. Now, you just won’t be subjected to reading them. He vows to move back to Notre Dame one day to do something important.

SANDRA LAGUERTA,

a theology and medieval studies major, has been with the Irish Rover since 2010 and reigned as the Religion and Ethics Editor this past year. Almost going to the University of Florida four years ago, Sandra attributes her attendance to the University of Notre through the Blessed Virgin’s intercession, and thus continues to strive to be her most faithful yet unworthy servant. Grateful for all of the professors who have taught her and the friends she has made, Sandra hopes to visit Notre Dame from time to time after graduation, if only to see the new organ and floor at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Next year, Sandra will be taking a bite out of the Big Apple as a junior fellow at First Things.

It was a dark and stormy night when JOHN MICHAEL COCHRAN pulled Excalibur from its stone, making him the new Humor Guru of the Irish Rover. His two favorite sounds are the sidesplitting laughter of the Irish Rover staff and the twang of good country music. When he’s not hitting the books or getting swoll, John can be found performing research with stem cells in the lab. He will bring his old Southern attitude, love of techno music and strict diet of biscuits and gravy to Houston, Texas, where he will begin medical school next year.
