Notre Dame Men’s Basketball suffers another key loss

UPDATE (6 PM EST, January 17): Auguste dressed and played limited minutes in Notre Dame’s Saturday game versus Miami. It was reported that Auguste was missing from the team earlier this week while he took care of academic issues.

The Fighting Irish men’s basketball squad will have to move forward without one of their top forwards, as multiple sources have confirmed an indefinite suspension of junior Zach Auguste.

The university has yet to make a public statement on the situation, but is expected to do so later this evening.  Adam Shear of FOX28 was the first to report the news late Tuesday night.

Auguste published an Instagram post Monday night possibly reflecting the suspension.  This would be the second straight season that Notre Dame has lost a key player in their rotation. Coach Mike Brey saw Jerian Grant suspended from last year’s team for the spring semester due to academics.

Auguste’s suspension has not been narrowed down to academics.  A key big man for the Irish, Auguste is averaging 14.3 points per game and pulling down 6.4 rebounds a game this season. The next men into the rotation would most likely be Martin Geben and Austin Burgett, who have both seen limited minutes during games thus far.

The No. 12 Irish (15-2, 3-1) take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-6, 0-3) in an ACC matchup this evening in Atlanta, Georgia.
